How can parents help their children learn English?

Our Elegante Dove Education Academy is really passionate about helping parents support their children’s English learning. As a parent, you play a big role in motivating and guiding your child. Learning English not only improves their education but also helps them feel more confident, communicate better, and prepare for future success.
Did you know that children who are read to regularly know 30 million more words by the age of 3 than those who aren’t? That’s why we want to provide you with easy and effective methods to help children from ages 1-12 to build strong language skills.

1) Create a  English Rich Surrounding

 Read Out Loud – We encourage you to read English books to your children daily ! Even before they start to speak , which is around 12 months of age , it is important to read to them because the brain is already developing basic language understanding.
 
 Label Household Items – use sticky notes to label things around house . Seeing words like door , window, chair etc. helps children learn faster by making their vocabulary improve every day. 

2) Play Based Learning

 Interactive Games -make new fun and engaging way for children to improve their English. Games like jumbled words, crossword puzzles, connecting the picture with word /phrase or filling the blanks  children can develop their vocabulary ,spelling and critical thinking.


                   Jumble word example : jumbled (tac)  → correct (cat)

Role Playing – pretend to be in a real life scenarios like ordering food in a restaurant to practice everyday vocabulary and phrases with children. For example :  Playing Store – A child pretends to be a shopkeeper, and you pretend to be a customer by asking : “How much is this?”

3) Multimedia Resources

Watch Educational Videos & Cartoons – use animated videos specially designed for children to help them learn easily with fun symbols and basic language.

 Sing Music & Rhymes – learning English with nursery rhymes, songs or chants can help with pronunciation, rhythm, and vocabulary. For example : Singing “Head, Shoulders, Knees, and Toes” can help children to memorize body parts easily

4) Everyday Conversations & Reading Together

Daily English Talks – ask simple questions about daily routines. For example, “What did you do today?” or “How are you feeling?
 
Read Together – choose age appropriate books like fairy tales or picture books in English. You can also ask open -ended questions about the story to build understanding like :
“What do you think the author is trying to teach us with this story?”

5) Storytelling & Writing Games

Predictable Language – use stories with repeated patterns, rhymes, or familiar sentences to make it easier for children to anticipate what comes next. This method helps children to gain confidence in speaking and writing. Fill in blank stories for child to complete sentences in how they want , for example :

                           “Today, I saw a ____ at the park, and it was ____.”

Creative Writing Games – for improving children`s imagination we can play games like “Pass-the-Story” game .Goal is that each person adds a sentence to build a story together. By doing it we also improve on sentence formation and storytelling skills of child .
